Artist Biography

For more than 8 years, Jonathan Freeman has been a proficient musician and bassist playing at the highest level for his age. Jonathan has performed with numerous bands and ensembles. Performing on multiple occasions in various jazz combos, jazz orchestras, classical orchestras, rock bands, and funk ensembles. He is also asked to record on many projects for other fellow musicians.  Some of the many achievements he has been awarded are the Berklee College of Music North American Scholarship, the Berklee Achievement Scholarship, and made the Berklee College of Music Dean’s List for 2015, 2016, and 2017.

 

Jonathan began playing the bass at around age 10. He started to take music seriously as a career his sophomore year of high school. He performed in many different ensembles in the high school and also formed a Jazz Combo with peers at the school. Eventually being able to play at events such as the Purdue Jazz festival, the North Shore Jazz festival, and Jazz in the Meadows Jazz Festival. Having worked with a number of different music groups, Jonathan arrived as an experienced musician when he was accepted to Berklee College of Music in Boston.

During his time at Berklee Jonathan had numerous performance opportunities such as performing with Jacob Collier at MIT's Kresge auditorium, being assistant Principle bass of the Boston Civic Orchestra, and working with Lin Biviano ( Performances, recordings, and tours with Tony Bennett, Count Basie, Jimmy Dorsey, Ella Fitzgerald, Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra and others)in the Blue Note ensemble. Jonathan has since then graduated from Berklee with a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance.

He now resides in Nashville, TN performing, teaching at the Bellas Artes School of Music in Wheaton, IL Virtually, and occasionally performing in Boston. He studies with Berklee College of Music Professor Emeritus Jim Stinnett (Performances and recordings with Lionel Loueke, Rufus Reid, Michael Manring, Phish, Red Garland, NTSU 1:00 Lab Band, Tal Farlow and others) in Candia, New Hampshire. He continues to strive to become a very accomplished musician and bassist.
